Effective September 25, 2026
The short version
- Rex keeps what you text it so it can remember you. We never sell it or use it for ads.
- To answer you, Rex sends your message and recent context to an AI provider (OpenAI).
- Photos are used to answer and then discarded. They are not saved.
- Text Rex “delete my account” anytime to erase your data.
This policy explains how SXNA Labs LLC (“we”, “us”) handles information when you use Rex, the text-message assistant at textrex.app and (628) 289-2421 (“Rex”). By using Rex you agree to this policy.
What we collect
- Your number and name. Your phone number or iMessage address, and the name you share.
- Your messages. What you send Rex and what Rex sends back, including messages in group chats where Rex is added.
- What you tell Rex about yourself. Things like your major, where you live on campus, meal plan, dietary restrictions, interests, goals, and other details Rex saves as memories so it can help you better.
- Food logs, if you use food tracking: items, portions, and estimated nutrition.
- Reminders and alerts you ask Rex to set.
- Photos you send. These are resized and sent to our AI provider to answer your message, then discarded. We keep only a note that an attachment was sent, plus anything you ask Rex to log from it.
- Technical data. Our servers keep standard logs such as IP addresses and delivery records, used for security and reliability.
How we use it
- To answer your messages and remember context you shared.
- To send messages you opted into, such as reminders, lunch picks, or event alerts.
- To keep Rex secure, prevent abuse, and fix problems.
We do not sell or rent your information, share it for advertising, or use it to build ad profiles.
Who else handles it
We use a small number of service providers who process data only to run Rex:
- OpenAI generates Rex’s replies and runs web searches. For each message it receives your message, your profile and relevant memories, recent messages in the thread, and any photos. Search queries may include context like your location or dietary preferences. Under OpenAI’s API terms, this data is not used to train its models by default.
- Photon delivers messages to and from iMessage.
- Our cloud hosting provider and Cloudflare run our servers and network.
Live Purdue lookups (dining, buses, courses, and more) run on our own servers and receive only the query needed, never your conversation history. We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect people’s safety or our rights, or as part of a merger or acquisition. If that happens, this policy continues to apply.
Group chats
If you add Rex to a group chat, Rex processes that thread’s messages, including other people’s, to reply. Only add Rex where the group is okay with it.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while your account is active. When you delete your account, we erase it from our active systems right away. Backup copies are deleted within 30 days. Rex’s replies in group chats and other people’s messages stay, because they belong to that group.
Your choices
- Delete everything: text Rex “delete my account”, then reply DELETE to confirm.
- Stop messages Rex sends first: text Rex, e.g. “stop lunch texts” or “turn off event alerts”.
- Undo a food log entry: tell Rex “undo that”.
- Access, correct, or delete specific info: email [email protected]. We respond within 30 days.
Depending on where you live, you may have more rights under privacy law, such as access, correction, deletion, or portability. We honor these requests for everyone, wherever you live.
Security
Traffic is encrypted in transit, incoming messages are verified by signature, and access to our systems is limited. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects you, we will notify you as the law requires.
Students and age
Rex is built for college students. It is not for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child under 13 is using Rex, email us and we will delete the account. Rex is independent and is not operated by Purdue University, so this policy is not a Purdue record policy (FERPA).
Changes
If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we will update the date above and, for significant changes, tell you in a message from Rex.
